6 Tips for Hosting Christmas Dinner

Guess what?! There’s only 2 Friday’s left until Christmas. I don’t know about you, but I think that is absolutely crazy, wasn’t it just Halloween?

Alright, so you’ve decided it’s time to put the big girl panties on and host Christmas dinner. Good for you! It can be super stressful, you’re right. However, this time of year shouldn’t REALLY BE stressful, (ha! I know easier said then done). Your energy should be put into the things that count, like family and friends.

So, I’ve put together some ideas to help you host Christmas dinner, so you can relax and have quality time with your friends and family instead of running around like a stressed out crazy person and ruin Christmas. That would suck, right?

Meal Prep, duh.

Cut up all your veggies and herbs the day before the feast. It’s great to just open up the fridge and BOOM veggies are all ready, almost as if tiny elves are living in your fridge helping you out. And thanks to those elves, your mascara won’t run because of those god forsaken onions. Actually, come to think of it, elves in your fridge is creepy. You cut those vegetables up cuz you’re a rock star.

Make your desserts first! Desserts first, desserts first!! Toss that pie in the fridge so when you’re ready to satisfy your sweet tooth all you gotta do is put that pie in the oven. OR maybe make a delish tart that doesn’t even need to go in the oven at all. #winning

Set the table. (My favourite part)

Having the table set the day before will set you up for success. Why, you ask? You can perfect your decorations, all while thinking of what food dishes will be out on the table, and what dishes are staying in the kitchen. Put the gravy boat and the salad bowl on the table, or any dishes that will be on the table to see how much room you have for decorations. Knocking over a candle into the cranberry sauce with the gravy boat will ruin the cranberry sauce. Ruined cranberry sauce = ruined Christmas (in my books)

Sometimes simplicity speaks volumes.

Assign Table Seating

If you have more than 4 people at the table, make it easy for them by deciding who goes where. This will put an end to the chair/ glass swap once everyone is seated that we’ve all witnessed. Plus! This gives you a chance to make sure you A.) have room for everyone, and B.) aren’t forgetting anyone. Another bonus – it will look like you really got it all together.

Got some extra rosemary stems kicking around? Maybe your christmas tree won’t mind if you take a couple snips from the bottom for a quick DIY.

Create a Drink/ Bar Station

Keep people out of the kitchen and drinks out of the fridge, because that spot is sacred at a time like this. Set up glasses, cork screw, mixes and garnishes, even have an ice bucket so that your guest can hydrate as needed šŸ˜‰ which is crucial to the spirt of Christmas.

Those Pesky Details

Make sure your electronics are working. Maybe you haven’t put a certain set of speakers on in a while, or maybe you want to put on a Christmas movie for after dinner, or for the kids. Perhaps you and your guests want to play a game or have a slideshow (if that’s your thing..), make sure this stuff is working properly and all the right cords and pieces are around. Dealing with cords when you’ve got a bird in the oven isn’t ideal. This can make a host exceptional angry, someone may even lose an eye. Am I joking…? I’m not even sure.

Don’t Sweat The Small Stuff.

Every inch of your home doesn’t have to look like Christmas threw up on it. A few white candles, and some greenery will do wonders. At the end of the day your guest are just thankful to be there. So plan what you can, and roll with the punches and pour yourself a nice glass of wine!!

I hope you guys liked today’s post, let me know if you are hosting a dinner this holiday season, and if you have any tricks up your sleeve to make it seamless!!

Have an awesome day!!
